ABOUT

A DIFFERENT

APPROACH TO MASSAGE THERAPY

DSC01711.JPG

After graduating from the 3000 hour program at the West Coast College of Massage Therapy in 2008, I began work in a multidisciplinary clinic in Coquitlam, BC. In that time I spent a winter as a Massage Therapist for Canadian Mountain Holidays Heli-skiing. I then moved to Revelstoke BC for a year of RMT work and outdoor recreation in the mountains.

Today, I am living in Mission BC, working from home and loving every moment of life. My direction with Massage Therapy has been evolving with continuing education courses of an osteopathic nature. My goals are to treat the body, not the symptoms.  As an active individual, pursuing skiing, hiking, rock climbing, running, and paddling I have a great appreciation for a healthy body. I am passionate about massage as both a preventative, and corrective form of therapy.

Through my education and training, I am qualified to treat a wide variety of health-related conditions, whiplash injuries, chronic aches and pains, pregnancy massage, and more. If you are unsure if massage can help, please feel free to send me any questions you may have (see contact page).

I encourage you to come in and see how massage can help!

Over my years as a Therapist, I have taken various continuing education courses to better treat you, the patient. Please note, I frequently do not use a top sheet in treatments, so please wear clothing that you are comfortable to move in, such as loose-fitting shorts and sports bras.

 you touch everything.

SERVICES

THERAPY EXPLAINED

In your initial visit, we will spend 5-10 minutes for assessment. During this time, we will discuss your reason for treatment, and work out a treatment plan that will be specific to your needs. The following are some treatment techniques that may be utilized in your treatment, but not limited to:

VISCERAL MANIPULATION

Visceral Manipulation focuses on correcting and maintaining optimal organ health. This is not a therapy used in every treatment, as it is not always needed. Visceral Manipulation is ideal for conditions such as IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), constipation, digestive issues when in a NON-inflammatory state, *low back pain*, pelvic restrictions, bladder incontinence, and much more. Visceral is also very helpful for postpartum to encourage organs and tissues back into proper functioning position.

MYOFACIAL THERAPY

The fascial system in our bodies is a 3D network of strong fibrous connections with many functions. Primarily, fascia acts as a functional barrier between and around muscles, nerves, arteries and veins to provide slide and glide. If this complex continuous tissue becomes adhered to itself or surrounding tissues, dysfunctions will begin to appear. Adhesions may form from scar tissue, dehydration, compensations within the body, or injuries.

To better understand fascia, imagine the body as a knitted sweater; if one thread gets snagged, the sweater will become twisted, and tangled.

Fascial release, or myofascial release (myo, referring to muscle) works to smooth and realign your fascia to improve your body's proper function. The treatments are slow to allow the fascia time to fully release and do not use lotion. For best results, avoid using lotions on your skin prior to treatment.

NEURAL MANIPULATION

Neural work is very gentle, light contact work to the nervous system in the body. This includes the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral (outside the spine) nerves. This approach can be helpful for sciatica, muscle tensions that don't seem to resolve, thoracic outlet syndrome, headaches, post-operative scar tissue pain and more. Working with restricted nerves can help re-establish communication in the body, and help the body on it's path to optimal health.
